On the day of Texas taking the stage at SEC Media Day, the Longhorns added a hyper-talented recruit to their roster. John Meredith, the 2027 No. 2 overall recruit, was announced to be joining the Longhorns this season.
Meredith had committed to Texas over a month ago and was supposed to play out his senior year of high school, but then things changed. Playing his first three seasons at Euless Trinity High School, Meredith transferred for his senior season.
Meredith intended to play for North Crowley High School, but couldn’t because his transfer was for athletic purposes. That isn’t allowed in Texas. So now Meredith joins the Longhorns rather than just sitting out for a year.
There’s no timeline or guarantee that Meredith sees many snaps as a freshly turned 18-year-old. Regardless, Texas has elite talent headed their way.

A long, rangy corner, standing 6’2 and weighing around 175 pounds. The five-star is the No. 2 overall player in the class of 2027.
Meredith’s long arms and agility are what stick out; anytime a longer-built player is as quick as he is, the product on the field usually impresses. What’s important is that Meredith puts on weight and keeps being great both in press and off coverage.
Being an outside corner means playing against the best and most gifted wide receivers in the country. Meredith has the prototype build, but will continue to grow.
