Kemon Spell, the No. 1 RB in the 2027 recruiting cycle according to the 247Sports Composite, has seen a number of schools fighting for his services. The 5-foot-9, 205-pound running back from McKeesport, Pennsylvania, was being recruited heavily by Georgia, Penn State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Miami.
On Monday, the No. 7 overall recruit and No. 1 recruit out of Pennsylvania, as announced by On3’s Hayes Fawcett, committed to Georgia.
Spell commented under Fawcett’s post, “I’m home go Dawgs.”
On October 21, 2025, 247 Recruiting Writer Eric Thomas predicted that Spell would commit to Notre Dame. Then, on January 17, 2026, 247 National Recruiting Analyst Brian Dohn predicted Spell would commit to Penn State. This was probably because Spell was previously committed to Penn State, but decommitted after the firing of James Franklin.
If Georgia head coach Kirby Smart can sign Spell, he would be the highest-rated RB Smart has signed over his tenure. The 247 Sports Composite gives Spell a 0.9970 rating. The last RB that was even close was Zamir White with a 0.9957 rating. It would also be the first time Georgia has signed the No. 1 RB in a cycle since signing White.
Georgia has long been known as RBU (Running Back University). However, they haven’t really had a dynamic running back since the days when D’Andre Swift was patrolling the Dawgs’ backfield. That was the last time the Bulldogs had a RB go over 1,000 yards. Just last year, Nate Frazier came close with 947 yards. He was the first Georgia RB to go over 900 yards since 2019.
Here are Spell’s stats, posted by him on Twitter/X:
Spell would be a great fit for Georgia, and it sounds like he feels the same way.
“It’s a great school, great program,” Spell told DawgsHQ. “They’re great at football. As soon as I got the offer, they showed me love right off the rip. That’s something I always look for when I go places.”
