AJ McCarron reportedly has received an offer from the New England Patriots.
As reported by WEEI’s Kirk Minihane on Wednesday, the former Alabama quarterback reportedly has an offer in hand from one of the NFL’s top franchises as free agency heats up this week. Earlier, McCarron won his grievance against the Cincinnati Bengals, a development that allowed him to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

No details of the offer were revealed, but it’s interesting to consider the possibility of McCarron in a Patriots uniform. Quarterback Tom Brady is 40 years old, and it’s unknown how many more seasons he’ll be able to play. Plus, New England coach Bill Belichick likely is intrigued by McCarron, given the player’s experience with Nick Saban, a friend of Belichick’s.
Whatever the outcome, McCarron has to enjoy having options. He has thrown for 920 yards with 6 touchdowns since he was selected by the Bengals in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
It will be fascinating to follow McCarron’s situation in the coming days.
