ANTIOCH, Calif. — Antioch offensive coordinator Brett Dudley handed Tianna Hicks, the mother of the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit, a Target shopping bag for her son after Antioch’s 29-17 win over San Ramon Valley in the first round of the state playoffs.
The bag sits behind Dudley’s desk and is used when Alabama 5-star running back commit Najee Harris travels.
“All he has to do — I explained it to him — whatever he wants to wear to the airport, take that bag and put it in his backpack with his ID,” Dudley explained to Harris’ mother. “There are drawers, socks, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, soap, lotion — everything. He just has to throw it in his backpack. It’s ready to go.”
After a dominant 289-yard, three touchdown performance Friday night, Harris will bring the Target shopping bag along with him when he uses his first official visit this Saturday when he travels to UCLA. He’ll have all the essentials with him this time.
“That’s so funny because every time we go somewhere he always forgets drawers or socks,” Hicks told SEC Country.
Harris was supposed to take his first official visit to Alabama for the Texas A&M game last month, but he didn’t make it to the airport in time for his flight. He’s expected to make his way to Tuscaloosa for the Iron Bowl, but the trip is not set just yet.
The feeling around the community of Antioch is that Harris will stick with his commitment to Alabama. His trainer Marcus Malu told SEC Country that he’s hoping Harris rolls with the Tide.
“Wherever he goes — I hope it’s Alabama — I just want to see him compete,” Malu said. “He loves competing against the best. Just watching Alabama, you’re competing against 4- and 5-stars every day. Not only that, Scott Cochran is one of my idols. I love the way he works. Before I met him, I didn’t know he screams the way he does. That’s what I do here.”
The U.S. Army All-American will be an early graduate and enroll in his school of choice come January.
