Alabama analysis: Writers select their MVPs (so far) of fall football camp

SEC Country’s Alabama football coverage team weighs in on the Crimson Tide’s MVP after a week of fall camp.

Marq Burnett: DL Raekwon Davis

It’s hard to pick an MVP five practices in, but defensive lineman Raekwon Davis has stood out the most. Davis, a rising sophomore, has lined up with the first defensive line through the first five practices. Most expected Davis to provide depth, but not many penciled him in as a starter. There’s still plenty of camp left, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Davis started against Florida State. He’s a big, physical defensive lineman who could provide some pass rush off the edge or slide inside to help against the run.

Christopher Walsh: Jeff Allen

Who? Allen, Alabama’s head trainer has had few injuries to deal with during the first week, which is very good news for the Crimson Tide. Nick Saban confirmed Thursday night what was largely expected that there haven’t been many personnel decisions made yet, which helps explain why there’s been so little movement with where players have been taking reps. That’ll start to change after Saturday’s first scrimmage. “It’s going to be a lot about personnel evaluation in a lot of cases,” Saban said. I agree with Marq that massive defensive end Raekwon Davis is being given every opportunity to win a starting job, but in sort of reading the tea leaves I’m going to add Rashaan Evans. The linebacker appears to be really stepping up in hopes of making the most of his senior year.
