Junior right-hander Zac Rogers threw four hitless innings in his first start and reliever Garrett Suchey notched his second win of the season as the University of Alabama baseball team completed the season sweep of UAB, 6-4.
Sophomore second baseman Cobie Vance went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, while junior first baseman Cody Henry and junior third baseman Connor Short both knocked in two runs Tuesday night at at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
UAB didn’t plate a run until the ninth inning, but scored four tims before senior Mike Oczypok got the last two outs to earn his first career save.
“We wouldn’t have won this game if it wasn’t for Zac Rogers going out there and competing, and not getting too big in the moment,” Alabama coach Greg Goff said in a statement. “He went out, threw strikes, had quite a few strikeouts and just threw great. I’m really proud of his performance.”
Rogers struck out four and walked two as his ERA dropped to 1.26. Suchey (2-4) gave up three hits over three innings, with no walks and four strikeouts.
Starter Matthew Calvert took the loss for UAB (16-17) in his first career start. Alabama won the previous meeting in Birmingham, 4-1, on March 21.
Alabama (14-19) will host Texas A&M in a three-game series beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
