TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama basketball received some good news on Sunday morning as Ohio State transfer Daniel Giddens announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide on Twitter.
Giddens, a 6-foot-10 center, picked Alabama over Georgia, TCU and Pittsburgh.
“I want to say thank you to (Ohio State) Coach Thad Matta and his entire Ohio State University basketball staff from this past year. Thank you for the opportunity that allowed me to participate in your basketball program and to attend such a highly respected academic institution. After much thought and prayer, I have decided to attend The University of Alabama. RTR,” Giddens wrote in a statement posted to his Twitter account.
A native of Mableton, Ga., Giddens averaged 3.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 33 games with the Buckeyes last season. Giddens was rated as the No. 8 overall center in the Class of 2015, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, after playing his senior season at basketball power Oak Hill Academy in Virginia.
The news sure seems to have made Tide coach Avery Johnson‘s day on Sunday.

Per NCAA transfer rules, Giddens must sit out a season and will be eligible in 2017.
