Alabama basketball: Avery Johnson says Tide need to ‘play right’ against Virginia Tech

Playing right against Virginia Tech

Alabama faces a tough opponent in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Virginia Tech finished 21-11 with wins over Duke, Virginia and Clemson this season. The Hokies received votes in the postseason AP poll. Alabama coach Avery Johnson said Alabama needs to “play right” against Virginia Tech. Tip-off will be at 8:20 p.m. CT on TNT.

Donta Hall’s status is questionable

Alabama forward Donta Hall suffered a scary fall in the second half of the team’s SEC Tournament win against Auburn. Hall was unable to go against Kentucky. On Tuesday, Johnson updated Hall’s status ahead of the NCAA Tournament game against Virginia Tech. Hall is day-to-day and did not participate in any part of practice on Monday.

Alabama primed to have strong linebacker group in 2018

Alabama football experienced more adversity at the linebacker position in 2017 than any other position group. The team saw five players at linebacker go down with injuries during the season. After the season, Mekhi Brown chose to exit the team and join Tennessee State. Still, because of the amount of injuries, many inexperienced players were able to receive crucial playing time. As a result, Alabama should be strong at linebacker in 2018.
