Alabama will battle other name program to land nation’s No. 1 overall prospect

Alabama finished seventh in the recruiting rankings in the 2018 class, but expect the Crimson Tide to be back on top come 2019. SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner will answer the Recruiting Question of the Day each weekday. You can ask him your questions on Twitter or on Facebook. Find our previous questions and answers here.

What are Alabama’s chances with Kayvon Thibodeaux

From Caleb Steele

Kayvon Thibodeaux, the nation’s No. 1 recruit according to the 247Sports composite rankings, made his first visit to Alabama last weekend. It couldn’t have gone better for him and for the Crimson Tide’s chances at landing the 5-star Jack linebacker from Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.).

Thibodeaux admitted that before going to Tuscaloosa, he wasn’t thinking much of Alabama because of a negative perception he had of the school. That thinking has changed after spending two days on campus.

“It blew my mind. It exceeded all of my expectations,” Thibodeaux told SEC Country. “I wasn’t really too big on Alabama going into it, but they changed my mind. Before going, it just seemed like too much of a factory. They got the best guys. They didn’t turn these guys into big D-1 prospects. They just got the best guys. But now seeing it in person, I see that they pay attention to every little detail [to] make them better.”

Thibodeaux called the Tide the team to beat in his recruitment, but it’s early. He’s not planning to make a commitment until October at the earliest. If he were making a decision today, Alabama likely would be the choice, but he’s not. Alabama will have to battle with Southern California throughout his recruitment.

The good news is Thibodeaux said Alabama will receive an official visit this fall. I expect Alabama to be a strong contender throughout his recruitment.
