It’s always good to have Alabama coach Nick Saban in your corner.
First-year Alabama coach Avery Johnson has his Crimson Tide team at 9-3 heading into his SEC debut against Ole Miss on Thursday. Johnson said Saban has helped him throughout his acclimation to the new job in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Johnson said his relationship with Saban has been extremely beneficial.
“My relationship with Coach Saban is really good,” Johnson said during Monday’s SEC teleconference. “He’s been very supportive of all sports on campus. He’s welcomed my family and I to the University of Alabama Crimson Tide family. (He) met with several of our top recruits.”
Johnson, who was at the Cotton Bowl supporting Saban and the Tide last week, said he and Saban can talk about anything together. He said the two of them are working together to make Alabama athletics even better.
“We meet from time to time to talk about life, talk about coaching,” Johnson said. “He’s been a really good ally. I’m just excited that we’re partnering and trying to help not only the football team be great, but basketball.”
