TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — “James from Limestone County” had three wishes he felt Alabama coach Nick Saban “could make come true.”
The first was expected. James wished for Alabama to beat Tennessee. No. 1 Alabama travels to Knoxville, Tenn., on Saturday for a matchup with No. 9 Tennessee. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
James second wish technically wasn’t a wish at all. He praised Saban for being an honorable and respectable man who stood up for his players better than any other coach.
For his third and final wish, James said he had never attended an Alabama football game. James told Saban he watches the Crimson Tide every week, and explained that it was one of his biggest life wishes to see Alabama play in person.
Insert Saban, the genie.
“What I think we ought to do James because I really do appreciate your spirit and your support and your love of the program here,” Saban said. “I certainly appreciated your comments about me personally. But if you want to see an Alabama football game that much, I think you ought to and I think we ought to find out some kind of way what your name and address is, and make you a guest to one of our games. I’d love to do that.”
Fans at Bob’s Victory Grille cheered Saban for the gesture. Before the segment was over, radio host Eli Gold said the producers in the studio had already gathered James’ contact information and would pass it along.
As for beating Tennessee, Saban agreed with James.
“I know you wish for us to beat Tennessee, but I think a lot of us share that,” Saban said. “Our players share that, I share that and our coaching staff shares that. So, we’re right with you on that one, buddy. We’re going to do everything we can to make that happen.”
