BEAVERTON, Ore. — Matt Corral received a meaningful picture from Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll recently. It was a picture of the coach’s five Super Bowl rings with the New England Patriots.
Corral, a 5-star quarterback from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly High School, told SEC Country that his decision will definitely come down to either Alabama, Florida or Georgia.
The Crimson Tide, via Daboll, have a recruiting pitch that the other two schools can’t offer.
“Tom Brady was his guy,” Corral said. “If I want to be as good as I want to be, I’m going to learn under Coach Daboll.”
The nation’s No. 3 overall quarterback in the Class of 2018 is in an interesting spot. It is anticipated that Georgia is the favorite for Corral; however, the Bulldogs likely have 5-star quarterback Justin Fields at the top of their board. If Fields goes elsewhere, then Corral would likely be the choice for UGA.
There has been some chatter that Georgia could potentially land both Fields and Corral. But, Corral says that isn’t likely.
“I don’t think that will happen,” Corral said.
That’s not to say Corral is afraid of competition. He just doesn’t want to be in a class with another 5-star QB.
“It is not about the competition,” Corral said. “It is about what you think you can do. I like competition. That’s why I like Georgia. I like Alabama. I like Florida. Malik Zaire just got there. It is just going to make me a better person at the end of the day. So I feel like it is not that much of a factor.”
Corral said he’s expecting to visit Tuscaloosa next month for Alabama’s Champions Cookout.
