Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Roll Tide-ings, a rundown of everything happening in Alabama Crimson Tide recruiting with Chris Kirschner. Today, we talk the latest with who could potentially commit to Alabama this weekend.
Who’s on commitment watch this weekend in Tuscaloosa?
Alabama’s biggest recruiting event of the summer is upon us as the Champions Cookout takes place Friday. The Champions Cookout is an invite-only event where the majority of the Crimson Tide’s most important targets will be on campus. This year is no different.
The Crimson Tide should pick up some momentum on the recruiting trail this weekend. Here’s a breakdown of who could commit to Alabama:
Tommy Brown, 4-star offensive tackle, Santa Ana, Calif. — Since Brown picked up an offer from Alabama, the question has been when will he commit to the Crimson Tide? Brown’s father, Vince, threw the shot put for Alabama, and Tommy has said all along that an offer from his father’s alma mater would greatly impact his recruitment. This will be Brown’s first visit to Alabama since picking up the offer in June. Brown has said he wants to take all five official visits before making his commitment, but I can’t see that happening.
Jerome Carvin, 3-star offensive guard, Cordova, Tenn. — Carvin seems torn between Alabama and Tennessee. He’s expected to stay the entire weekend in Tuscaloosa with Alabama commit Jordan Davis, who he calls a “blood brother.” Expect Davis to be in Carvin’s ear all weekend about committing to Alabama. Carvin spoke with SEC Country earlier this week and addressed the possibility of committing.
Andres Fox, 3-star JACK, Mobile, Ala. — Fox wasn’t sure if he could make the drive from Mobile to Tuscaloosa as of Thursday afternoon, but if he makes it, he needs to be on commitment watch. I know Fox has gone back and forth about making a commitment either before or during his senior season. But because he grew up a big Crimson Tide fan and he has said that it’s the school his parents want him to attend, the commitment watch is warranted. Auburn and LSU are also in good shape with Fox.
Cameron Latu, 4-star JACK, Salt Lake City — This will be Latu’s third trip to Tuscaloosa, which is a lot for a kid from Utah. What’s important to note about Latu’s recruitment is he told SEC Country earlier this month that Alabama is the school his mother wants him to attend. This is an Alabama-Southern California race, but a trip to Tuscaloosa this weekend could be enough to seal the deal for Latu.
Jaylen McCollough, 2019 5-star safety, Powder Springs, Ga. —McCollough will make his second trip to Tuscaloosa this week. He attended camp earlier this week. Alabama feels very confident with where it stands with the elite 2019 prospect.
