TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick picked up a big honor on Monday.
Fitzpatrick was named one of 16 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the nation’s top defensive back.
Fitzpatrick, a sophomore, is one of three players from the SEC on the list.
Fitzpatrick leads top-ranked Alabama with 3 interceptions this season, all coming against Arkansas. He returned one for a 100-yard touchdown.
Fitzpatrick is fourth on the team with 36 total tackles, including 2 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
Fitzpatrick also has 5 pass breakups and 1 forced fumble this season.
Alabama is on its bye week. The Crimson Tide play on Nov. 5 at No. 19 LSU.
