Alabama’s 2018 recruiting class isn’t done, apparently. On Friday, the Crimson Tide flipped former Arkansas State quarterback commit Layne Hatcher.
Hatcher took to his Twitter account to make the announcement official:

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, the Little Rock, Ark., native is the No. 2,182 overall player and No. 53 ranked dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 class. The Pulaski Academy standout is listed as a 3-star prospect.
In addition to his offers from Arkansas State and Alabama, Hatcher was being pursued by Eastern Illinois and Murray State.
The addition of the 6-foot-1, 204-pound quarterback couldn’t have come at a better time. Throughout the offseason, rumors have swirled that either Tua Tagovailoa or Jalen Hurts — whichever loses the quarterback competition — could transfer.
To add to the depth at the position, coach Nick Saban and his staff had planned to add former East Carolina quarterback Gardner Minshew as a grad transfer. However, Minshew changed his mind and elected to transfer to Washington State back in March.
The quarterback room certainly needed another body with so much up in the air. Hatcher will give the Crimson Tide much-needed depth.
