The Alabama football team is preparing for its third playoff appearance in as many seasons the College Football Playoff has existed.
It’s no secret that the Crimson Tide are loaded with talent. How much? You try narrowing down this season’s performances to Top 10 players. Arguments can be made for players to be ranked higher and players not on the list to be included. What do you think? Share your thoughts on our Alabama Insiders Facebook page or on Twitter.
No. 9 LT Cam Robinson
Why he’s here: It’s obvious that Robinson is on Alabama’s Top 10 list, but where he falls on it is up for debate. What is not up for debate is this — Robinson is a stud. He’s big, bad and will be a first round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. How does a player who will be a first round pick — likely the second player from Alabama taken behind Jonathan Allen — end up No. 9 on the list of top Alabama players for 2016? We’re beginning to sound like a broken record, but it’s Alabama and there are simply a lot of really good players. That’s not to say you can’t argue that Robinson is the best of the bunch. But on a team that fielded one of the most dominating defenses we’ve seen in years and a record-setting freshman quarterback, it’s a tough list to crack.
Robinson was the anchor on an offensive line that helped the Crimson Tide average 471.3 yards per game, including 247.2 on the ground (the best in Lane Kiffin’s three seasons). And what better way to break in a brand new quarterback than having his blind side protected by the best in the business — Robinson also won the Outland Trophy.
What’s ahead in 2017
Robinson will leave Alabama a year early and be the first offensive tackle selected in the 2017 NFL Draft. This has been in the making since he was a freshman All-American, then a first-team All-SEC performer as a sophomore and the Outland winner and All-American this season.
