Earlier this evening, it was announced that former Alabama quarterback Cooper Bateman would be joining the football team at the University of Utah. He is not, however, enrolling with the intention of playing quarterback. According to Kyle Goon of The Salt Lake Tribune, Bateman will be playing wide receiver for the Utes going forward:
Update on Cooper Bateman: Utah sees him as a wide receiver in its program. Not expected to compete for QB job this fall.

Utah’s starting quarterback Troy Williams had a nice year in 2016, but even still, it is a bit of a surprise to see Bateman moving positions. As a former quarterback, he doe,s of course, have ideal size for the position, and he’s always been seen as a good athlete. Time will tell whether this transfer, and subsequent position switch, will work out.
