Alabama football: Injury updates, pregame notes ahead of Tennessee kickoff

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama football continues its SEC grind with a home matchup against Tennessee on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:39 p.m. ET (2:39 p.m. CT) on CBS.

Alabama leads the all-time series 54-37-8 (52-38-7 after vacations) and has won the last 10 meetings. Alabama defeated Tennessee 49-10 last season.

Alabama has won 72 consecutive games against unranked opponents. Tennessee is unranked. Alabama has outscored Tennessee 351-119 during Nick Saban’s time in Tuscaloosa.

What we saw

  •  Wide receiver Calvin Ridley, defensive lineman Da’Ron Payne and tight end Hale Hentges are Alabama’s are Alabama’s captains vs. Tennessee.
  • As expected, defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand (MCL) is in street clothes. This will be the third game Hand has missed. He could be back for LSU barring any setbacks.
  • Trevon Diggs took the first rep during punt return warmups. Freshman Henry Ruggs III was behind him. Both Diggs and Ruggs muffed punts last week. Ruggs muffed his two attempts, but bounced back with a touchdown catch. After muffing his first one, Diggs fielded his other two attempts cleanly.
  • Former Alabama defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson is on the sideline. Robinson was a star on Alabama’s 2015 national championship team. He currently plays for the Detroit Lions.
