Count linebacker Mack Wilson among the Alabama players to respond after former Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson declared the Tigers “state champs” in swiping the Crimson Tide on Tuesday.
Carlson, who played for Auburn from 2014-17, made his controversial comment on The Paul Finebaum Show on the same day Alabama players and coaches visited the White House to celebrate the program’s fifth national title under coach Nick Saban. You’ll remember that Carlson and Auburn beat Alabama in November to clinch the SEC West. Still, the Crimson Tide earned the fourth spot in the College Football Playoff and went on to win the national championship.
Wilson fired off a strong message on Twitter, writing, “This college ball not high school.” Former Alabama linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton also jabbed Carlson and Auburn on Tuesday.
You have to love the Iron Bowl.
Cheers to Carlson for stirring the pot during an otherwise sleepy time of year for college football. Here’s guessing his “state champs” comment will be on the mind of some Crimson Tide players when Alabama and Auburn renew their rivalry in the fall.
That probably won’t be a good thing for the Tigers.
