Alabama has dominated college football on a national scale almost from the moment Nick Saban became head coach. But according to 247Sports’ composite ratings, the Tide have never signed anyone as highly ranked as Antioch, Calif., running back Najee Harris, who finally made it to Tuscaloosa on Sunday.
Harris is far from the first 5-star prospect the Crimson Tide have signed in the Saban era, and he’s not even the first top overall recruit in his class to sign on to play at Alabama. But nobody — not Julio Jones, not Trent Richardson, not Andre Smith — has ever received as high of a grade as Harris.
Of course, as such a highly ranked player, Harris is expected to compete for early playing time next season, only adding to Alabama’s embarrassment of riches at the running back position.
