Alabama football: Nick Saban stumps for tougher schedules

While Alabama schedules cupcake opponents with the best of them, it doesn’t have to be that way. As Nick Saban spelled out during his appearances on ESPN, the Alabama coach favors expansion of the conference schedule to 10 games. As Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News points out, this is the logical solution to a problem everyone has defined and nobody has done much about. Kevin Scarbinsky thinks it would harm college football in general.

ESPN’s Basketball Power Index has released its first rankings, which looks favorably on Alabama’s defense. The Crimson Tide are the second-best team in the SEC, by the statistical rating, but their offense stands to improve drastically this season.
