When Alabama players say they “left it all on the field’ against Clemson, they mean it.
Five Crimson Tide defensive starters played either 101 and 102 snaps during the national championship game, according to AL.com’s Rainer Sabin, who cites statistics from Pro Football Focus. Those were Reuben Foster, Ronnie Harrison, Anthony Averett, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Marlon Humphrey.
Tony Brown played 99 snaps and Rashaan Evans played 98, according to Sabin.
As a result, the Tide defense missed 17 tackles on the night, and squandered a a 14-0 lead. The Tigers gained 511 yards of total offense and quarterback Deshaun Watson threw for 420 yards and 3 touchdowns. The QB also rushed for one.
Clemson scored with one second remaining for the 35-31 victory.
