Daniel Carlson has taken a lot of heat from Alabama fans and players regarding his comments on the Paul Finebaum show on Tuesday, where he declared Auburn was the Alabama state champ last season, even though the Crimson Tide won the national title.
A number of Alabama players chimed in on the matter, even though they were visiting the White House. But the response so far came from the Alabama football Twitter account on Wednesday, when is used one of the many Spongebob memes to roast Carlson’s comments.
Carlson told Finebaum that Alabama might be ““Yeah, they might be national champs. But I tell you, we’re state champs. So we’ll take what we can get.”
Auburn did beat Alabama 26-14 in last year’s Iron Bowl, but the Tigers lost to Georgia in the SEC Championship game. Then Auburn lost in the Peach Bowl to Central Florida. Alabama meanwhile went on to win the national championship, and beat Georgia in the title game. It was the program’s fifth national title in Nick Saban’s time at Alabama. Auburn did win the national title back in 2010, but the Tigers have only beaten Saban four times since Saban became the Alabama coach back in 2007.
Though it is worth pointing out that the Alabama football Twitter account did compare the Iron Bowl to the Chum Bucket, the inferior fast food restaurant in Bikini Bottom. Surely some Alabama fans will be miffed about this while others will not get the reference.
