HOUSTON — Austin Deculus has a top three of Alabama, LSU and Michigan. That doesn’t necessarily mean the Crimson Tide’s chances of signing the offensive lineman are good, though.
Deculus, a four-star tackle from Cy-Fair High School (Cypress, Texas), told SEC Country at Nike’s “The Opening” regional in Houston that he knows which school he wants to commit to when he makes his decision on May 20, which is the date of his spring game.
“I have pretty much made up my decision,” Deculus said.
Now that can be considered not the best news for Alabama because he hasn’t visited Tuscaloosa in almost a year and the presumed favorite, LSU, has received a recent visit and will get another one this weekend.
The Opening finals invitee would not disclose whether or not it’s fair to consider the Tigers his top choice right now.
“I’m not going to say it’s true or not true,” Deculus said. “I’m just going to let everything come out on May 20.”
As of right now, he has no scheduled visit to Alabama before his decision date, but he did stress the fact that he is high on the Crimson Tide, even though it may appear that the Tigers hold an edge.
“They are a predominant SEC school,” Deculus said of Alabama. “They just know how to win. They are also showing me a lot of love right now. Not even just the offensive line coaches — the whole coaching staff is.”
Still, it would be a big surprise to see Deculus choose Alabama next month at his spring game, unless he returns to Tuscaloosa in the next month.
Deculus is rated as the nation’s No. 12 offensive tackle and is rated the No. 8 prospect in the state of Texas.
