Alabama has received its first signee of the 2016 class.
Charles Baldwin, a 4-star junior college offensive tackle from ASA College (Brooklyn, N.Y.), signed his national letter of intent during a ceremony at his school on Wednesday. Baldwin will be an early enrollee.
The 6-foot-5, 315-pounder verbally committed to the Crimson Tide back in June and turned down a late, strong push from the Oklahoma Sooners, who were hoping to host him on a visit. Baldwin turned them down, though.
He will have two years of eligibility left.
“They were telling me they want me to come in and contribute right away, and the fact I’m coming in as an early enrollee is really going to help,” Baldwin told Drew Champlin of AL.com.
“I think it’s a good chance I’ll play early as long as I work hard and buy into the system. That’s what the coaches are telling me and that’s what I plan on doing.
Baldwin is rated as the No. 4 overall junior college prospect and is the No. 2 overall offensive tackle.
