Alabama has the best chance in the SEC to make the College Football Playoff, according to FiveThirtyEight.
FiveThirtyEight’s model breaks down the odds of each team winning their perspective conference, getting into the Playoff field and winning the national championship. From there, a prediction was made with the Crimson Tide earning the No. 3 seed in the Playoff.
Alabama, who has a 41 percent chance to make the Playoff and an 11 percent chance of winning the national title, would face No. 2 seed Clemson (51 percent chance to make the Playoff). Ohio State (61 percent) and TCU (31 percent) received the Nos. 1 and 4 seeds, respectively.
LSU was on the outside looking in with a 30 percent chance to make the field. The Tigers were given an eight percent chance at winning it all.
Florida (18 percent), Ole Miss (8 percent) and Mississippi State (3 percent) are next on the list from the SEC.
Interestingly, LSU (22 percent) and Ole Miss (20 percent) are more likely to win the SEC than Alabama (14 percent), but the Crimson Tide has a better shot at making the playoff.
More than likely, everything both in the SEC and nationally will sort itself out over the last few weeks of the regular season, and this weekend’s contest between LSU and Alabama will certainly shake things up.
