Cesar Ruiz will be a coveted addition for whichever major school’s football program receives his signature next February.
The 4-star center prospect’s decision is far from finalized. But for the moment, Ruiz has Alabama as the favorite over Michigan to land his services on signing day, according to Ryan Bartow of 247Sports.
In April, Ruiz had released a list of his top 12 schools that featured the Wolverines as his No. 1 program, one spot ahead of the Crimson Tide. But citing the talent of Nick Saban’s coaching staff to Bartow — specifically naming assistants Mario Cristobal and Brent Key — Ruiz believes Alabama has done enough recently to supplant Michigan and Saban’s offseason nemesis, coach Jim Harbaugh.
The Tide have had four of their former offensive linemen selected in the past three NFL draft classes, including center Ryan Kelly, who went No. 18 overall to the Indianapolis Colts this past April.
Ruiz, listed at 6-foot-3 and 315 pounds, is ranked the 134th-best overall prospect in the Class of 2017.
