Alabama will battle it out with Oklahoma for one of the nation’s top cornerbacks.
Jared Mayden, a four-star prospect from Sachse (Texas) High School, tweeted that he will announce his commitment to either Alabama or Oklahoma on National Signing Day.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder took an official visit to Alabama last week, and he told SEC Country that the trip helped the Crimson Tide’s chances of landing him come Feb. 3.
“It definitely helped their chances with me getting back down there,” Mayden said. “I got more information on the school from the coaches this time around.”
Nick Saban had a chance to speak with the Texas cornerback last weekend, and the five-time national champion made sure his message to Mayden was clear.
“(Saban) was just telling me if I end up going there, I’ll have to work,” he said. “I think he said they are losing around four defensive backs, so it could be a situation that I could come in and play right away.”
Mayden, who was committed to Oregon before decommitting on Jan. 6, visited Oklahoma this past weekend.
He is rated as the nation’s No. 11 cornerback, per the 247Sports composite.
