The Alabama coaching staff struck again on Monday evening. Despite already having the top recruiting class in the country, the Crimson Tide were able to land another elite prospect.
DeMarcco Hellams, a 4-star safety from Hyattsville, Md., chose Alabama over Clemson, who was considered the favorite at one time. He took to Twitter to make the announcement official:

At 6-foot-1, 203 pounds, Hellams is the prototypical size for a safety in coach Nick Saban’s system. He shows the mental and physical makeup to be an effective run defender while also excelling in coverage.
That’s probably why Saban and the rest of the coaching staff made Hellams a priority. In addition, the DeMatha Catholic High School product also has found success as a wide receiver.
In addition to his offers from Alabama and Clemson, he also had programs such as Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State after him.
According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Hellams is the No. 92 overall player and No. 4 safety in the 2019 class. With his commitment, Alabama has only further established itself as the top class.
Texas A&M — led by new coach Jimbo Fisher — currently checks in with the No. 2 overall class after a slew of recent commits.
