The Alabama baseball team is borrowing from the national championship-winning football team; literally.
Redshirt freshman linebacker Keith Holcombe, a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., will be in the outfield for the Crimson Tide this spring, according to the team’s official roster.
Holcombe’s big moment on the football field this past season was a blocked punt against Florida in the SEC Championship game. Six months earlier, he was selected in the 37th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
“I’m blessed to be drafted today,” he tweeted in June. “It is an honor I will never forget! God has surely blessed me in all my abilities.”
Holcombe was 247Sports.com‘s 11th-rated Alabama prospect in the class of 2014, and he also hit .467 with an 8-2 pitching record as a senior at Hillcrest High School.
