TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama football remains in contention for another national championship.
No. 1 Alabama hosts Mississippi State on Saturday in Tuscaloosa at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET on ESPN.
Alabama holds the all-time series advantage, 78-18-3, and has won the last eight matchups between the two squads. The Tide has also won the last four meetings in Tuscaloosa, outscoring the Bulldogs 125-44 over that span. Most recently, Alabama came away with a 31-6 victory in Starkville last season.
The Tide look to extend a 21-game win streak and remain perfect during the 2016 season as coach Nick Saban continues to add to his legacy. The nation’s No. 1 rushing defense will get a test from Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald, who appears headed toward a 1,000-yard season as a runner.
Following the matchup with the Bulldogs, Alabama hosts Chattanooga next week in its Iron Bowl tune-up.
If Auburn and Alabama both win the next two weeks, the Iron Bowl will decide the winner of the SEC West once again. And with the SEC East floundering, the West Division winner should become a heavy favorite in the SEC Championship Game, with a chance to storm into the College Football Playoff on a high note.
Alabama made the College Football Playoff in 2014 and 2015, losing to Ohio State the first time and beating Michigan State and Clemson to win last season’s national championship.
