Nick Saban provided an update on the Alabama quarterback battle at his weekly press conference. And while he didn’t name a starter, Saban did narrow down the race to two quarterbacks.
Saban said the starter will either be junior Cooper Bateman and redshirt freshman Blake Barnett.
Saban: We're down to 2 guys at QB. Cooper Bateman and Blake Barnett. That's the way it's going to be right now: https://t.co/1JQFuyvw46

Saban’s comments indicate that freshman Jalen Hurts and redshirt sophomore David Cornwell are no longer in the running for the job.
“We’re down to two guys at quarterback. Cooper Bateman and Blake Barnett are the two guys we’re going to play in this game. We’re going to continue to work with all of our guys,” Saban said.
Bateman threw 52 passes last season and also started the Ole Miss game. Barnett was the No. 1 high school quarterback in the country per 247Sports Composite Rankings.
The Crimson Tide open their season on Saturday against the USC Trojans. The game will be played in Dallas and kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. To follow along with the rest of what Saban says, follow our live blog here.
