Don’t be fooled by the fact he’s on the Alabama staff in mid-January; the job Lane Kiffin has done at Alabama hasn’t gone unnoticed.
In the days leading up to the national championship game, Kiffin turned down UCLA’s offensive coordinator position, according to ESPN.com‘s Brett McMurphy.
As McMurphy noted, Kiffin’s father, Monte, worked with UCLA head coach Jim Mora in 1995 when both were with the New Orleans Saints. In 2013, Mora told the Dan Patrick Show he would like to hire Kiffin at some point.
For his part, Kiffin has proclaimed his satisfaction in Tuscaloosa, where he’s now spent two full seasons.
“I think it’s worked out as good as it can,” he told the Associated Press’ Ralph Russo this past weekend. “I knew what I was getting into as far as I’m going here to learn from the best coach in college football, but I didn’t really know I would learn as much as I did.”
