TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama coach Nick Saban announced Monday that right guard Alphonse Taylor has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest for driving under the influence on Sunday.
“We are very disappointed any time a player makes a choice that leads to this kind of behavior,” Saban said in a statement. “We are still in the process of gathering all of the details on the situation, but from a football standpoint, Alphonse Taylor has been indefinitely suspended from the team.”
Taylor reportedly left the scene of an accident on Sunday.
Taylor, a rising senior, started all 15 games at right guard last season. This spring, Taylor was demoted to the second team offensive line as Saban challenged him to lose weight and get in better shape. Taylor was replaced by redshirt freshman Brandon Kennedy. In Alabama’s latest media guide, Taylor was listed at 345 pounds, the same weight in the spring notes.
