TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama appears to have a new scout team quarterback this week.
Early enrollee Jalen Hurts, a former 4-star quarterback prospect, was seen sporting a No. 4 jersey as the Crimson Tide held its second practice of the week Monday afternoon. That would be the same number Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson wears.
Hurts was rated the nation’s No. 5 dual-threat passer in this year’s signing class, so his athleticism makes him a prime candidate to mimic Watson during practice.
A couple of other observations:
- Alabama defensive back Tony Brown’s status for next Monday’s is in doubt after coach Nick Saban revealed that the sophomore will continue to be suspended “until we get any new information.” He was not seen on the practice field, either.
- The Tide had an interesting visitor at the the indoor practice facility. Linebacker Jake Ganus, who just completed his college career at UGA, was on hand observing drills. The Chelsea, Ala., native transferred to the Bulldogs from UAB prior to the season.
