A.J. McCarron might not be the type of quarterback young players grow up wanting to be like. But Alabama QB signee Mac Jones hopes to be like the former Alabama quarterback.
Jones, a 4-star enrollee in the 2017 recruiting class, will wear No. 10 for the Crimson Tide, according to Jones’ father. McCarron wore that number when he won 2 national championships at Alabama.

Jones isn’t the Tide’s most hyped quarterback prospect. That would be 5-star QB Tau Tagovailoa. But no one thought McCarron would become the quarterback he was at Alabama.
In speaking with SEC Country’s Marq Burnett, Jones’ description of his game is similar to that of McCarron.
“I just like managing the game. I never like to do too much. I just get the job done,” Jones said. “I do what my coaches tell me, and if I do that, I’ll be fine and I won’t have to make any crazy plays. Really just a role player and a pretty good leader. Roll Tide.”
McCarron was taken in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft and is a member of the Cincinnati Bengals. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist in his time at the school.
