Alabama RB Derrick Henry loses out on major award
Nine days after the Heisman Trophy ceremony, Alabama running back Derrick Henry has finally lost an award to someone else.
The record-setting junior collected an impressive set of hardware earlier this month, including the Maxwell, Walter Camp, Doak Walker and Heisman. Anything he was nominated for, he won.
Tuesday, he found out what it’s like to let one slip away.
The Associated Press named Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey — the Heisman runner-up — its player of the year. He received 29 votes against Henry’s 16. Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson finished third with 11.
Per the AP, this is the first time in six years that the Heisman winner did not also take player of the year.
