Alabama running back Derrick Henry will take home the Walter Camp Award on Thursday night as college football’s player of the year.
The record-breaking running back beat out Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey, Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson and Iowa defensive back Desmond King at the College Football Awards in Atlanta, Ga.
Henry is the first running back to win the Camp Award since Arkansas’ Darren McFadden in 2007.
He’s racked up 1,986 yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground this year, both SEC records. The junior has already collected several awards, and is nominated for three more (Heisman Trophy, Doak Walker Award and Maxwell Award) that are still on the table.
