BEAVERTON, Ore. — The Opening finals 2017 is underway with 7-on-7 play beginning on Sunday.
There is no shortage of Alabama targets and story lines this week, and SEC Country will be providing daily updates, analysis, buzz, breaking news and full rosters.
Here is what we learned on Friday with the Crimson Tide’s top targets:
- Micah Parsons, a 5-star JACK target, will visit Alabama for three days. He’ll arrive in Tuscaloosa on July 15. This will be the nation’s No. 1 defensive end’s first visit to Alabama. You better believe that the coaching staff will roll out the red carpet for Parsons’ trip. Don’t be surprised if the Crimson Tide make a major move up Parsons’ personal list of favorite schools.
- KJ Henry, a 5-star JACK target, said Alabama will most likely be one of his final schools he decides from when he makes his decision in December. I think this is an Alabama-Clemson battle. The Crimson Tide are in good position here because of outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi. Henry and Lupoi have a very good relationship and it’s one of the main reasons why he considers Tuscaloosa “home.”
- JJ Peterson, a 4-star linebacker, still has Alabama on top. Peterson is one of the Tide’s top defensive targets, but he’s in no rush to make a final decision. He said he’d like to wait it out until late in his senior season. Peterson also said Oregon is now his No. 2 school. He has fallen in love with the landscape of the state since he got to Oregon for The Opening. He’s set to visit the Ducks later this month.
- Patrick Surtain, the nation’s No. 1 cornerback, is still considering Alabama, although LSU is the clear leader here. I don’t expect Surtain to commit anywhere other than LSU, although it is odd how he hasn’t committed to the Tigers already.
