The University of Alabama softball team opened the 2018 season with a 1-0 victory at South Alabama on Thursday night.
Senior ace Alexis Osorio (1-0) threw a 3-hitter with 8 strikeouts to earn the win.

Small ball was the difference as the shortstop led off with a bunt single, advanced on another bunt single by sophomore center fielder Elissa Brown, and both were in scoring position following a sacrifice by freshman second baseman Maddie Morgan.
An intentional walk to sophomore first baseman Bailey Hemphill loaded the bases to set up the groundout.
Freshman Kaylee Tow led off the top of the sixth with a double in the gap, her first career hit with the Crimson Tide.
Freshman Devin Brown took the loss for the host Jaguars.
Alabama will open play in the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala., on Friday. The Crimson Tide will face Penn State at noon ET and Lamar at 2 p.m. ET.
