TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama softball team notched win No. 500 at Rhoads Stadium on Friday night by winning the first game of a key weekend series with LSU, 3-0.
Junior pitcher Alexis Osorio (17-4) notched the two-hit shutout, the Crimson Tide’s 21st of the season, and struck out 11 batters. Alabama, No. 11 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll and No. 12 in the USA Today/NFCA poll, improved to 34-6 overall, 9-4 in SEC play.
No. 8 LSU slid to 31-8, 7-3 in league play.
Alabama scored all three runs in the first inning after right fielder Chandler Dare doubled and went to third on left fielder Mari Cranek’s bunt-single with no outs.
Senior third baseman Marisa Runyon doubled in one run, and junior first baseman Peyton Grantham knocked in two more to the delight of the paid attendance of 2,345 fans.
Junior RHP Allie Walljasper (11-2) took the loss, giving up three earned runs on six hits, with six strikeouts and no walks.
It was Alabama’s second major milestone win in just over a week as coach Patrick Murphy enjoyed career win No. 1,000 on March 28.
