Alabama tailback Derrick Henry wins Doak Walker Award
The accolades continue to roll in for Alabama tailback Derrick Henry. The bruising running back was named the 2015 Doak Walker Award winner as the nation’s best running back on Thursday night.
The junior edged out Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey and LSU halfback Leonard Fournette for the honor. Henry led the nation with 1,986 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns. He was the main catalyst for Alabama’s 12-1 season and will need to be the workhorse for the Crimson Tide in its College Football Playoff semifinal contest against Michigan State.
The awards could keep coming Henry’s way too. Henry was listed as a finalist for the greatest individual award of them all, the Heisman Trophy. In fact, he is the overwhelming favorite to win the award. He was listed at 1-12 odds to take home the Heisman. Henry could add to his hardware collection on Saturday night when the Heisman winner is announced.
