If the season ended today, Alabama would be facing a familiar foe in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Based on Tuesday night’s release of the latest Playoff rankings, the No. 2 Crimson Tide are projected to square off against Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, according to Stewart Mandel of Fox Sports. The Buckeyes, of course, handed Alabama a surprising 42-35 defeat during their national championship run last season.
The Tide are 3-1 all-time against Ohio State, with previous wins over the school in both the Sugar Bowl and the Citrus Bowl.
Alabama has three regular-season games remaining, including road trips to No. 17 Mississippi State and archrival Auburn, along with a strong possibility of playing Florida in the SEC Championship game. Winning out could easily allow the Tide to jump ahead of Clemson for the No. 1 spot.
