Alabama’s Derrick Henry dedicates Heisman Trophy to fallen ex-teammate
The newest Heisman Trophy winner gave a lengthy speech on Saturday night, thanking family, teammates, coaches and several others who helped shape his journey.
Before Derrick Henry stepped off stage, he made sure to dedicate the award to his former teammate.
“I want to accept this trophy — and rest in peace — for my brother Altee Tenpenny,” Henry said. “I just want to tell him I love him and I miss him and God bless him. Roll tide.”
Tenpenny played running back alongside Henry in Tuscaloosa from 2013-2014. An unfortunate sequence of events led to his death in a one-car accident this October.
“No matter what I was going through I knew I could always come talk to you,” Henry wrote on Instagram following Tenpenny’s passing, “& you could make feel better & you knew I was always there for you.”
