Officials had to think about it for a few moments, but they eventually awarded Derrick Henry a crucial touchdown in the waning moments of Monday night’s national championship game.
With 1:07 remaining and Alabama up five points, Henry reached for the end zone on a third down lunge. Initially, referees gave no signal, but the crew eventually decided that Henry snuck in, and replays confirmed the call.
The Heisman winner’s score — his third of the day — made it 45-33, effectively shutting the door on Clemson.
It also put Henry in a tie with Mark Ingram on top of Alabama’s career rushing touchdowns list. Check out the updated rankings below:
