Alabama coach Nick Saban will probably have plenty of answers for Florida’s offense on Saturday, but when it comes to Kirby Smart, he’s at a loss.
Saban’s defensive coordinator is leaving the Crimson Tide for Georgia’s head coaching position after the season. Naturally, Saban does not want to discuss any “distractions,” but he briefly addressed the situation before letting the media have it.
“Don’t ask me any more questions about that,” he said. “‘Cause that’s all I have to say about it. I don’t have anything else to say about it. So don’t ask. There is no more. I know you would like for some kinda way (to) extract something out of this bottle [points to Coca-Cola on podium] that’s not there.”
“Y’all speculate and create things and then you want people to respond to it! [Lifts up Coca-Cola] Get this bottle to respond to it because I don’t know anything more than that. I told you everything I know. So you can ask the bottle. But don’t ask me.”
Some players were disgruntled by news of Smart’s hiring. It didn’t make Saban any happier.
“If you really care about the coaches and you know a guy’s done a great job and he’s worked real hard to create another opportunity for himself, you oughta be happy for him,” Saban said. “You shouldn’t be worried about it. You shouldn’t be concerned about it.”
For what it’s worth, Saban added he could not confirm Smart’s hiring.
“I think that everybody in this building is very, very focused on what we’re trying to do for our team,” he said.
