Jhavonte Dean caught the eye of the Alabama staff at a satellite camp in early June. One month later, he is now a part of the Crimson Tide Class of 2017.
Dean, a junior college cornerback from Blinn College, has committed to Alabama, a source has told SEC Country. Dean becomes the Crimson Tide’s first cornerback commitment in the Class of 2017. He also held offers from Florida, TCU, Miami and Kentucky among others.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder clocked a low 4.3 40-yard dash time in front of Crimson Tide defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley and Nick Saban while on an unofficial visit to Alabama June 20.
Dean has three years of eligibility remaining to play two, which means he can use a redshirt season at Alabama if the coaching staff elects to go that route.
Alabama is still recruiting 5-star cornerback Shaun Wade, who is committed to Ohio State. Wade is the Crimson Tide’s top target at cornerback and the team believes it has a good chance at flipping him later down the road.
