Alabama is down a commitment in the Class of 2017 after its only defensive back decided to reopen his recruitment.
Xavier McKinney, a 4-star safety from Roswell (Ga.) High School, announced on Twitter that he has decided to de-commit from Alabama. McKinney told SEC Country a few weeks ago that Clemson and Florida were tied for second for his services.
“I would like to thank Coach (Nick) Saban and (defensive backs) Coach (Derrick) Ansley and the whole Alabama staff that gave me this opportunity, but I would like to open my options back up by de-committing,” McKinney said. “I feel this is the best thing to do so I can reevaluate things.”
Alabama is still recruiting 5-star JaCoby Stevens, 4-stars Hamsah Nasirildeen and Montaric Brown and 3-star Kyriq McDonald at safety.
