The Crimson Tide finally has a cornerback in this year’s recruiting class.
Nigel Knott, a four-star cornerback from Germantown High School (Madison, Miss.), committed to Alabama over Mississippi State and Ole Miss on his birthday, in a video done with Bleacher Report. Knott becomes Alabama’s first cornerback commit in the 2016 class with four-stars Shyheim Carter and Jared Mayden still on the Crimson Tide’s big board. They’ll announce their decision’s on National Signing Day this Wednesday.
Beating out Ole Miss and Mississippi State for Knott is a huge win for Alabama. His father and godfather played for the Rebels; his mother attended the school, too, and his sister runs track for Mississippi State. Knott has no ties to Alabama.
What’s the Crimson Tide getting with Knott? Alabama just got one of the most athletic football players in high school. At Nike’s “The Opening” prestigious football camp this past summer, Knott recorded the second-best vertical jump at 46.5 inches. We got a glimpse of his freakish athleticism here where he said he was “just messing around” after school one day.
As a senior at Germantown High School, Knott racked up 51 tackles and three interceptions in eight games. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder plans on majoring in finance and communications when he begins college.
Knott is rated as the nation’s No. 7 cornerback. With him on board, Alabama now has the nation’s fifth-best class.
