Texas looked like the heavy favorite to land Irvin Smith, but that changed after he canceled an in-home visit with the Longhorns. He only hosted Nick Saban on an in-home visit after taking an official visit to Alabama.
Smith, a three-star tight end from Brother Martin High School (New Orleans), committed to Alabama over Texas and Memphis. After he de-committed from Texas A&M, Texas was thought to be the favorite because his teammate, Peyton Aucoin, is committed there.
The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder is the second tight end commit in this year’s class. He joins early enrollee Miller Forristall.
